The Maple Ridge Ramblers senior boys’ basketball squad hosted a tournament over the weekend and took second place.

On Thursday, Ridge played Charles Best from Coquitlam in a barn burner. Ridge trailed 37-28 at the half, fought back to trail 50-49 at three quarters, and came back to win 69-67. Leading the Ramblers was a solid fourth-quarter defence led by Isaac Halas, Jackson Murdoch with nine rebounds, and Owen Stewart with nine recoveries. Ethan Coumont with 23 points and Ravjot Rakhra with 13 points led the offence.

On Friday, Lord Tweedsmuir defeated Ridge 68-56. Coumont led Ridge with 25 points and 12 recoveries. Murdoch had seven rebounds.

On Saturday, the Ramblers defeated Enver Creek 69-62 to place second. Strong performances came from Coumont with 21 points, 10 assists and 11 recoveries; Rakhra with 21 points and eight rebounds and Halas with 13 points and 10 recoveries.

Last season, the young Ramblers gained valuable floor time, and this year the squad is showing its potential. Much of their schedule is against 4A teams, but based on school population, the Ramblers will compete in the 3A division, against teams from Abbotsford, Langley and Maple Ridge.
