Knuttila gets BMS Scholar Athlete Award

Maple Ridge’s Lyndon Knuttila has earned himself the Burnaby Mountain Selects Scholar Athlete Award

Maple Ridge’s Lyndon Knuttila has earned himself the Burnaby Mountain Selects Scholar Athlete Award, developed to help celebrate academic achievement and on-field excellence for each scholastic year.

Brent Hoskins, head coach of the Simon Fraser University men’s lacrosse program and executive director of the Burnaby Mountain Lacrosse Elite Development Program, made the announcement last week.

To be eligible for the award,  student-athletes must have competed in the Fall 2011 and/or Summer 2012 BMS Elite Touring Program and achieved an academic average of 80 per cent or higher for the 2011-2012 school year.

In all, 85 student athletes from across B.C. and Washington State received the award this year.

Knuttila is a Grade 12 student at Thomas Haney Secondary and a member of the boys’ elite touring team, for which he plays attack.

Knuttila will receive an award certificate at the next Maple Leaf Awards Dinner on Saturday, January 26, 2013, an annual event that celebrates youth and collegiate field lacrosse in British Columbia.
