Maple Ridge cleans up at junior bonspiel

A handful of local curlers picked up medals at the Golden Ears Winter Club’s annual junior bonspiel last weekend. The local curling club hosted close to 100 junior curlers from across the Lower Mainland as part of the two-day tournament, which saw a total of 23 junior teams compete in the novice and intermediate divisions.The Delta Blues from the Delta Thistles Curling Club took first place in the novice division, while finishing a second was the Bonneau rink from the Abbotsford Curling Club. Team Burnell, representing Thomas Haney secondary, finished third, taking bronze medals all around. The rink consisted of skip Leah Burnell, third Lea Desjardins, second Taylor Chambers, and lead Carly Strang.Team Tardi from the Langley Curling Club went undefeated to finish first in the intermediate division. Team Stadnik, from the Golden Ears Winter Club, grabbed silver. The rink was skipped by Ben Stadnik, and featured Kodie Rea throwing third, Adam Martens at second, and Mitchell Currie playing lead. Team Chan from the Royal City Curling Club in New Westminster took home bronze.Also competing at the tournament was the Pederson rink, representing the Golden Ears Winter Club in the intermediate girls’ division. The team was comprised of skip Meaghann Pederson, third Kirsten Moore, second Alex Jensen, and lead Emily Kupser.
