Marauders dominate at track tourney

The athletes of Pitt Meadows Secondary shone at the 2011 Provincial Grand Forza Invitational Track Meet earlier this month at the Richmond Olympic Oval, with the juniors boys’ team capturing gold and the senior girls’ team taking silver.

The senior boys’ team, meanwhile, finished fifth. All three teams the school sent qualified for the finals in their division.

“The medals are bonuses,” Pitt track coach Lance Kraus. “The real benefit is the athletes starting to believe in themselves, coming closer together as a team, and establishing personal bests.”

More than 55 teams took part in the event, as the Pitt Marauders managed to set four meet records.

The gold medal-winning junior boys’ squad was made up of Michael Brain, Jacob Gowler, Sean Hutchinson, Reid Muller, and Cole White. The silver medal-winning girls’ team was made up of  Emily Gresham, Brianna Morrison, Nicole Foster, Shania Payen, and Olivia Moriconi. The senior boys’ team included Martin Duckhorn, Zach Henry, Sergio Canbrera, Adam Lloyd, and Charles Chen.
