The Meadow Ridge Knights peewee football squads both registered shutout wins last weekend, with the Gold Knights beating the Mission Niners 36-0, while the Blue Knights beat the North Langley Bears 14-0.
Dryden Pollon led the offence for the peewee Gold Knights with two long touchdown runs, as well as three kicked converts. Cody Stewart and Harrison Longhi controlled the Mission NIner defence and opened large holes for the Knights’ running game. On defence, Jevon Anutooshkin, Ciaran Davies and Sean Combs allowed Mission only a few first downs. The Gold Knights defence has not allowed a touchdown in the three regular season games they have played so far. The peewee Gold Knights are back home at Samuel Robertson Technical Secondary School this Saturday at 4:15 p.m. against the Abbotsford Falcons.
Mason Robinson, Joseph Murphy, Chase Wise, and Liam Mountford controlled the line of scrimmage, allowing big runs for touchdowns by quarterback Tyler Spencer and running back Liam Cumarasamy in the peewee Blue Knights’ 14-0 win over North Langley. Defensively, the Knights contained the Bears running game outside in with cornerbacks Kurtis Brown and James Ross, halfbacks Riley Celino and Jackson Smith, and defensive ends Sebastian Berg and James Grimason all making key tackles of the day.
While the peewee squads found success on the field Saturday, the other Knights team did not fare as well.
The junior bantam team lost 40-0 to the North Langley Bears. On special teams, kicker Jake Loftus was able to pin the Bears deep with long kicks towards the side lines. Mark Podschadly took over as quarterback for the second half, leading a drive all the way down to the Bears’ 20-yard-line. Sean Roy, Jack Dillen, and Callum Harris also had strong efforts.
The atom Knights travelled to North Langley to take on the Bears’ atom squad, losing 24-12. With James Harder celebrating his ninth birthday, tight end Jacob Brass saw his first trip to the end zone as he scampered 35-yards for the score, while offensive linemen Dominic Hryciuk and William Ferguson battled in the trenches to keep the lanes open for the Knights’ ball carriers. Hayden Cote and Seth Durante led their defense to countless backfield tackles, while linebackers Ryan Winterton and Taigan Godin locked up the outside.
The midget Knights were also playing at home last weekend, losing to the undefeated White Rock Titans 15-9, their first loss of the season. The midget Knights travel to Townsend Park this Saturday to take on the Chilliwack Giants.
The bantam Knights fell 34-14 to the Vernon Magnums at home last weekend, and are now 1-1 this season. The bantams travel to Chilliwack this weekend to face the Giants, before returning home Sept. 29 to host the Abbotsford Falcons.
