Meadowridge provincially ranked in senior boys basketball

Maple Ridge private school has one of the top single A teams in B.C.

The Meadowridge School Gryphons senior boys basketball team has hit a lofty ranking of fifth in B.C., for the first time in school history.

The Gryphons play in the single A division, and are leading their league, Fraser North, with three straight wins to start the season. They beat B.C. Christian Academy 83-28, Maple Ridge Christian 58-52 and Deer Lake School 75-55. They’ve also had some big wins in exhibition play.

Next up, they will tip off against John Knox Christian School on Monday at 7 p.m. in a home game.

Action is also underway in the Maple Ridge Division of Triple A basketball, where the Pitt Meadows Marauders have won both of their first regular season games to get an early lead atop the standings.

On Tuesday, Pitt beat Samuel Robertson Technical 76-75 in overtime. They also beat the Garibaldi Rebels 106-29.

Maple Ridge secondary has made the jump to quad A this year, the beat Pitt Meadows 68-62 in exhibition on Friday.

Ridge will host Dr. Charles Best of Coquitlam on Thursday in their home gym in regular season game.
