O’Meara pays dividends as Burrards chop down Timbermen

Young left-hander scores game winner after deadline deal bolsters Burrards line-up

Promised more floor time in Maple Ridge, newly acquired Burrards’ forward Patrick O’Meara delivered Sunday against the Nanaimo Timbermen.

The big left-hander scored the winning goal with nine seconds left in the third to secure a 11-10 decision in Sunday’s home game against the Timbermen.

The Burrards rallied in the third period from an 9-6 deficit to take a 10-9 lead with just under four minutes left in the game, thanks in large part to three goals  in a span of one minute and 28 seconds. However, the Timbermen, playing their second game in as many nights,  pulled even with 3:05 left in the frame. The home crowd was treated to the thrilling win as the clock wound down thanks to O’Meara’s first in a Burrards uniform, on a set-up by Creighton Reid.

O’Meara was picked up just more than a week ago from the Langley Thunder for defenceman Sam Cook. The Thunder also acquired veteran Steven Hay and two draft picks in the deal.

The Burrards scored six goals in the third for their second win of the season. Jared Davis led the Burrards with three goals and three assists, taking home first star honours. Burrards’ goalie Drew Dickie registered the win, facing 54 shots, including 19 in the final frame. The win improves the Burrards to 2-10-1 on the season.

The win comes after the Burrards dropped an 8-5 decision to the Salmonbellies Thursday night in New Westminster. The Burrards trailed throughout the game, falling behind 2-1 after the opening period and 5-3 after two. O’Meara and Riley Loewen had two assists each. Dickie took the loss in net.
