The Ridge Meadow Racers hosted their annual Jingle Bell Cup at Planet Ice on Saturday, with more than 115 skaters from Washington State, the B.C. Interior central, Vancouver Island and the Lower Mainland competing for medals.

In Division 1, Marshall Shupe and Janie Green led the Racers with strong performances in their races.

Shupe had a personal best in the 1,500m by finishing in 2:22.09, and he accumulated enough points with his 500m (45.75) and 1,000m (1:36.80) to finish third overall taking home the male bronze medal.

Green finished fourth overall, which in speed skating earns an iron medal, despite receiving a penalty in the 1,500m.

In Div. 2, Ridge Meadows did not see any medals, but Annabelle Green saw a personal best in the 200m (21.95) and Sammy Green in the 200m (22.47) and 400m (42.62) races.

Also in Div. 3, Rohann Chassay skated away with an iron medal for male overall by skating a 400m (46.83), 1,500m (3:14.41), and 200m (25.12).

In Div. 4, Catalina Shupe had a PB in the 400m (48.04), plus her times from her 1,500m (3:27.78) and 200m (25.89) earned her a bronze medal.

In the same division, Hailey Friesen worked hard in her races while Willa Ludeman achieved a PB in her 200m (27.41), as did Danica Custance (27.67).

Though placement medals were not given to Div. 5, both Antonio Tumaneng and Finely Ludeman earn participation medals with Tumaneng having a pb in the 200m.

Div. 6 saw three Ridge Meadow Racers have PBs. Luis Tumaneng in 400m (1:03.68), Cailean Jackson 800m (2:29:20) and Hailey Friesen 800m (2:16.49).

During the Div. 9 races Ridge Meadows’ little two-year-old Elsa Kirkwood stole the hearts of the audience by competing in her first meet. It took her 2:33 to complete her 50m distance, and she got the  the loudest cheer crossing the line.
