The Ridge Meadows Racers hosted their annual Jingle Bell Cup speed skating meet at Planet Ice Maple Ridge over the weekend, and included in that event was the BC Winter Games Zone 3 qualifier.
The Racers captured five out of the eight positions available for the Fraser Valley Zone 3 team for the Games. The top two winners from each division were named to the team. The Fraser Valley Team hopes to increase this through wild card positions, which will be revealed by the end of December.
In the under-16 female category, Annabelle Green of the Racers took gold, and Ramanjit Chauhan of Abbotsford’s Matsqui Blades silver. There were no bronze or silver winners.
In the under-16 male category, Jared Bolland of the Racers took gold, Zackery Carpenter of the Sardis Fliers silver, Luke Davidson of the Fliers bronze and Cainnon Connell of the Blades iron.
In the under-14 female category, Clara Johnson of the Blades raced for gold with Catalina Shupe of the Racers taking the silver. Willa Ludeman of the Racers captured the bronze and Daycie Legault of Mission won iron.
In the under-14 male category, Samuel Green of the Racers had a gold finish with teammate Rohann Chassay winning silver. Asher Barnesdale of Mission captured bronze and Nathan Larsen from the Fliers received the iron.
