The Ridge Meadows Flames are one of six teams to have clinched a berth in the 2021-22 PJHL Playoffs, with just two weeks to go before post-season play.
In the Harold Britain Conference the Langley Trappers, Flames, and Chilliwack Jets have all earned a spot in the playoffs. The Aldergrove Kodiaks and Mission City Outlaws are neck-and-neck for the fourth berth in the conference, with the Tom Shaw Conference’s Grandview Steelers able to cross over should they have more points than either of those two teams.
In the Shaw Conference, the North Vancouver Wolf Pack, Delta Ice Hawks, and Richmond Sockeyes have all earned a playoff berth. The White Rock Whalers and the Steelers are still potentially able to nab the fourth and final playoff spot in the conference.
The Flames shut out the Grandview Steelers 4-0 on Wednesday night at the Burnaby Winter Club, as recently acquired hometown boy Daniel Zuvic was perfect in net while facing 30 shots.
Defenceman Matthew Tyska got his third goal of the season, and added an assist, and was picked the game’s first star. He now has 20 points in 33 games this season. Ashton McDonaugh, Zack Lagrange and David Stepputat also scored for Ridge.

The league recently clarified the tiebreaking procedure for playoff seeding. The team having the greater number of points is awarded the higher position. In the event two or more teams are tied with the same number of points, the higher position shall be awarded to the team having won the greater number of games. Should the teams have won the same number of games, then the higher position will go to the team having the best goals for and against average (determined by taking the goals for and subtracting the goals against). If teams are tied in all of the foregoing circumstances, then the higher position will be awarded to the team with the best record against each other.
The Delta Ice Hawks will host the 2022 Cyclone Taylor Cup provincial championship, and have earned an automatic berth in the tournament. The winner of the Stonehouse Cup will also advance – unless Delta is the PJHL champion, then the runner-up will take the second PJHL berth.
The Flames have just four games left in the regular season, and are back in action on Friday night at Cam Neely Arena, when they host the Surrey Knights. Game time is 7:30 p.m.
