Track standouts compete against B.C.’s best

Local track and field standouts competed against the best from across the province and brought home several medals

Local track and field standouts competed against the best from across the province and brought home several medals, as the B.C. track and field championships were held at McLeod Athletic Park in Langley.

Pitt Meadows had 23 individual entries and three relays.

Vladislav Moldavanov won the boys triple jump with a leap of 13.77m, and took bronze in long jump at 6.28m.

Thrower Olivia Mariconi won two bronze medals in the discus (39.41m) and the shot put at (11.44m).

Two 16-year-old Pitt athletes also did well. Miler Reid Muller was fourth in the 1,500m race in a time of 4:06.98, seventh in the boys 800m in 1:57.42, and will get a shot to improve on his results next year. Similarly, 16-year-old Shania was fourth in the 100m dash at 12.58m.

MRSS sent 11 senior athletes who competed in seven individual events and both girls relays.

Mark Kalmykov won the boys hammer throw with a throw of 54.65m.

Mikayla Tinkham finished third in the Grade 8-9 girls 3,000m with a time of 10:27.80.

Laurie Thomas from Meadowridge finished second in the boys high jump with his leap of 1.85m.

Maple Ridge Christian School’s Jordan Ellingson took third in the boys javelin with a throw of 47.89m.
