City of Pitt Meadows has launched a survey to understand the housing needs of the city, to prepare a housing needs assessment for a provincial initiative.

In 2019, a new legislative requirement came into effect in B.C., requiring local governments to collect data, analyze trends and prepare reports that describe current and projected housing needs in their communities. In addition, municipalities and regional districts in the province will need to complete publicly accessible housing needs reports by April 2022 and every five years after that.

So fulfill this requirement, and plan for development in the coming years, the city has launched a community survey. This survey will further help clarify the city’s draft housing needs assessment and help in understanding the current as well as the future housing need of residents. The draft housing assessment can be found here: https://bit.ly/36gd3sV.

The city has also put together a virtual open house: https://www.pittmeadowshousingneeds.ca/.

“Complete this survey to share your thoughts on whether, based on your experiences, there are any gaps, additional areas to consider, or anything that has been missed,” said the city.

All the feedback received will help to finalize the Housing Needs Assessment which will then be used by the City and non-profit and private organizations to inform their decision-making related to housing and support services in the community.
