The Maple Ridge Museum and Archives is recruiting volunteers for important preservation work.

The Maple Ridge and Whonnock Cemeteries have graves dating back more than 100 years. Many of the people buried there were the early settlers of the community, and some do not have anyone left to care for their final resting place.

So the museum staff is once again looking for locals who value historical preservation to help with the important task of cleaning and maintaining the headstones in these cemeteries.

This work is scheduled for:

Maple Ridge Cemetery

• June 11, 5-8 p.m.

• July 18, 5-8 p.m.,

• Aug. 6, 5-8 p.m.,

• Aug. 17, 9 a.m. to noon

Whonnock Cemetery

• July 20, 9 a.m. to noon,

• Sept. 9, 9 a.m. to noon

Pre-reservation is required and all ages are welcome! (youth under the age of 16 must be accompanied by an adult). This event is a great way to give back to our community, while enjoying the outdoors with your family!

Volunteers must provide their own cleaning supplies. A list will be sent out prior to the day.
