Maple Ridge secondary hosts Show and Shine event

Community car show a benefit for the MRSS dry grad event

There were great cars and big crowds at Maple Ridge Secondary on Sunday, May 26 for the annual car show.

There were big rigs, military vehicles, hippy Mini-Coopers, hot rods and restored classics at the event – more than 125 entries. There was also a market with some 25 vendors, a D.J. playing music, and hundreds of spectators.

Car show people love the local event. Terry O’Brien said it’s a fun local car show, just blocks from his house, and he brought his 1936 Ford Coupe. This is a serious car guy, with a Chip Foos autographed photo, and the famed auto designer’s wheels on his car.

His Ford is a plumb colour with impressive hand-painted trim. O’Brien said he bought it in 2005, and after much love and attention, finally got it on the road in 2017.

He did all of the power train and chassis work himself, but hired professionals to do a lot of the work.

Looking at the rumble seat, which was available as a trunk or an outside seat on that model, he said the original owners in Saskatchewan would have had passengers making some icy cold trips across the prairies.

Asked how many hours he put into the job, O’Brien said it’s best not to keep track of either the hours or the dollars.

The Show and Shine is a fundraiser that is a free family event for those wanting to check out , with a minimum donation of $10 per vehicle to benefit the dry grad event coming up in June.

Organizer Trevor Randle estimates the Show and Shine raised $3,000 for the cause.
