A group of lucky painters will have the chance to learn from a master painter in a first of is kind event at the Kanaka Creek Watershed Stewardship Centre.

Ron Hedrick, master painter and founder of the local art group the Stave Falls Artist Group, will be teaching a two day oil painting workshop using a landscape photo of Kanaka Creek Regional Park.

Hedrick is an internationally renowned painter. The Vancouver born artist had his first art lesson in 1968. However, it wouldn’t be until the 1980’s – when he was in his 30’s – that he started painting seriously.

His oil work can be seen across the globe including galleries like: Gainsborough in Calgary; Rendezvous Art Gallery in Vancouver; Hampton Gallery in Kamloops; Hambleton Gallery in Kelowna; and Evalyn Dunn Gallery in New Jersey – in addition to private and corporate collections in Europe, Asia, the Middle East, the United States, and in Canada.

He currently lives in Kelowna with his wife Sandy.

Hedrick founded the Stave Falls Artist Group in 2004. The group is made up of 10 local artists who meet once a month and hold at least one show every year.

On day one of the workshop, Hedrick will be doing a live step by step painting demonstration using the photo for the demonstration and on day two, participants will recreate the same scene under Hedrick’s guidance.

There is now a waiting list for the workshop, that takes place June 3 and 4.
