Spring into summer with the Maple Ridge Concert Band

Annual concert takes place on Tuesday, May 21, in Coquitlam

Spring into summer is the theme for the upcoming concert featuring the Maple Ridge Concert Band.

The band, under the direction of Dr. John van Deursen will be presenting its annual spring concert, with the: MRCB Intermediate and ABC bands, under the direction of Geeta Das; and the Heritage Woods Secondary School Senior Concert Band, under the direction of music teacher Kathy Fester.

Audience members can expect lighthearted and cheerful music to suit the season, including some modern music and classic band selections such as overtures and marches.

The evening will conclude with a massed-band piece, during which all of the musicians will join together on stage for a grand finale.

The concert will take place at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, May 21, at the Evergreen Cultural Centre Studio Theatre, 1205 Pinetree Wy., Coquitlam.

Tickets for reserved seating are available online at: https://evergreenculturalcentre.ca/and cost $20 for adults and $17 for students and seniors, plus a service fee. Children 12 and under may attend for free, but they must have a ticket.

Looking ahead, the MRCB will be kicking off its summer series of concerts in the park at the bandstand in the Memorial Peace Park on Tuesday, June 25, which will continue every Tuesday through the month of July, wrapping up “Twilight Tuesdays” on July 30. These concerts begin at 7:30 p.m. each week.

The band will also be performing in the Pitt Meadows Day parade on June 1, in addition to Maple Ridge’s Canada Day festivities at the bandstand on July 1.
