A jazz pianist and vocalist who has captivated audiences around the world is coming to Maple Ridge.
Champian Fulton will be gracing the stage at the ACT Arts Centre for the Listening Lounge Series, an ongoing, casual, cabaret-style musical concert which features not only jazz but other genres of music.
Oklahoma born Fulton grew up in a musical household. Her father was a trumpeter and educator whose musician friends inspired her focus on jazz.
Fulton is now considered “distinctive and sophisticated” by her peers and critics and she has since performed in the finest jazz rooms of New York and in concert halls across the glove.
In New York she has performed with musical royalty like Lou Donaldson, Frank Wess, Scott Hamilton, Buster Williams, and Louis Hayes.
Champian has 17 recordings under her belt. Her debut album called Champian with David Berger & the Sultans of Swing, released in 2007 with Such Sweet Thunder Records, was recorded following a two-year residency at the famed New York Jazz Club Birdland. After Dark, released in 2016, featured the music of Dinah Washington and her 10th album, The Stylings of Champian, released in 2018, was named one of the top five jazz releases of the year by NYC Jazz Record.

Champian was named Pianist and Vocalist of 2019 by Hot House Magazines Readers Poll.
The Champian Fulton Quartet will be at the ACT, 11944 Haney Place, at 8 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 23, in the Studio Theatre.
Fulton will be on piano and vocals, Cory Weeds on saxophone, Russ Botten on bass, and Joe Poole on drums.
Tickets are $27,50 for preferred and $32.50 for premium, plus fees.
The final Listening Lounge Series concert will by Schryer, Dobres and Hillhouse Trio on April 5.
