There’s Something Rotten coming to Maple Ridge.
Students of SD42’s Interdisciplinary Arts Academy will be putting on the hilarious musical Something Rotten, a story that takes place in Renaissance England, about brothers Nick and Nigel Bottom, who dream of becoming famous bards – more famous than the most famous bard of them all, William Shakespeare.
And there is no lack of creativity on their part, as they look to a soothsayer for advice who sends them on a wild pursuit of the next big thing in Renaissance theatre: making a musical.
Director Sharmila Miller first saw the show at Brookswood Secondary in Langley.
“I couldn’t stop laughing the entire show,” she explained.
“The references to famous musical numbers, the Shakespearean content, and the imperfectly endearing, and lovable characters all moved this show to the top of my ‘must do’ list,” said Miller.
The Interdisciplinary Arts Academy is dedicated to providing students with hands-on, immersive learning through the production of theatrical performances.

Cast and crew learn everything from interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills, to project management, time management, and creative thinking – while putting on a full-scale Broadway musical.
“With this cast and crew I have no doubt audiences are in for an absolute treat,” Miller added, noting all the students have been doing such a fantastic job creating the characters and the world around them.
