The first big camping weekend of the year is upon us, with many people flocking to regional and provincial parks for Victoria Day long weekend.

According to the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change Strategy, even with tools like the new reservation system in place, the demand for camping is still at staggering levels, especially during long weekends.

A lot of this has to do with the fact that the ministry estimates that reservation demand has grown by more than 200 per cent in the past decade alone.

Golden Ears Provincial Park is a particularly popular location for campers, with the park reporting that every single campsite within the park was booked before noon on Friday, May 19.

Golden Ears park staff also said that they weren’t expecting any checkouts on Saturday, meaning that the provincial park would likely be at maximum camping capacity for most of the long weekend.

Reservations for Golden Ears Provincial Park and other B.C. parks is available at www.camping.bcparks.ca/.
