The Maple Ridge Burrards are looking to start the new season off with a bang as they inch closer to their first game on Friday, followed by the home opener celebration on Sunday at Planet Ice.
Although the Western Lacrosse Association (WLA) kicked off the season on Wednesday, the Burrards will suit up for their first match on Friday when they face the Burnaby Lakers. This game will take place at Bill Copeland Arena, with a start time of 7:30 p.m.
This will be the first time the teams have faced one another since trading a few players in the off-season, which included the Burrards giving up Gordie Phillips and Connor Goodwin in exchange for Lakers’ Brandon Clelland and Aidan Baker.

Later in the weekend, the Burrards will be heading back home to Planet Ice where they will face the Victoria Shamrocks for a 5 p.m. home opener.
But before the game, there will be a fundraising barbecue taking place outside the arena, with a wide range of activities being offered.
The barbecue, which starts at 1 p.m. on Sunday, will have hot dogs, chips, candy bags, Gatorade, and water for sale. There will also be an obstacle course, frisbee toss, fastest shot competition, and more set up at Bella Morse Park behind the arena.
An autograph session will be held at 3 p.m., followed by the game against the Shamrocks, which will be entry by donation.
Several newly drafted players will be making their Burrards debut this season, including Drew Andre, Isaac Ngyou, Kaden Doughty, Mitchell Sandberg, Spencer Ma, Trevor Funk, and Luke Evans.
Burrards GM Lance Andre said that the team from the previous season was completely torn down and built back up and he was excited to see what this new group of guys could do.
