Haney Farmers Market, part of the Fraser North Farmers Market Society, announced that vendor applications for the 2022 season were now open.

The Haney Farmers Market, at 11925 Haney Place in Memorial Peace Park will run from May 7, to Oct. 29 this year, on every Saturday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. It will also have two other sister markets in the neighbouring city. The Fraser North Farmers Market Society, will be organizing a market in Pitt Meadows, as well as in Port Coquitlam this year.

The Pitt Meadows Farmers Market, located at 11985 Harris Rd in Pitt Meadows Spirit Square by City Hall, will run on the first and third Tuesday afternoon from June to September between 3 to 7 p.m, while the Port Coquitlam Farmers Market location is yet to be decided.

Applications to become a vendor could be found on: https://www.farmersandmore.org/get-involved. Any questions can be redirected to exec@farmersandmore.org.

The volunteer applications for the 2022 season are not yet open, however, the society will be posting these towards the end of February.

Last year, the market society had approved around 175 vendor applications. This year, while the society doesn’t have a maximum number of applications they would approve, they do have a maximum on how many vendors they can fit in the Memorial Peace Park in Maple Ridge, which would be around 75, said executive director Alex Pope.

”We still have a little bit of work to do laying out the map for Pitt Meadows but anticipate that we may be able to fit around 40 vendors in Spirit Square. Many vendors only commit to a few market dates and this provides some variety from week to week. Of course, we also have quite a few regular vendors that book for the full season and we appreciate seeing them every week,” he said.

Pope also said that he expects the start of the season look the same as it did at the end of the 2021 market season.

“Due to COVID-19 restrictions, we haven’t been able to offer a seating area or have a kids program for making crafts. I am anticipating that may not change by opening day in May but hopeful that we can reintroduce those by summer,” he added.

A new program, Nibble Network, was created last year for kids, where instead of having kids craft, they were offered treats from market vendors to take home with.

“This was well received and we are applying for funding to continue this program,” Pope said.
