A home-crowd advantage might just be what the Ridge Meadows Flames need to help take the lead again after the Richmond Sockeyes tied the series in the Stonehouse Cup finals on Thursday night.

The game started off on a positive note for the Flames, with defenceman Jakob Loewen scoring the opening goal of the first period during a power play after Michael McIntyre of the Sockeyes was given two minutes for charging.

A Sockeyes goal tied up the game about seven and a half minutes into the second period, but the Flames quickly struck back with yet another power-play goal, this time from forward Evan Fedele.

Zack Lagrange put up another Flames goal with less than five minutes left in the second period, which would be the last Ridge Meadows goal in the game.

Continuing the trend of power-play scoring, the Sockeyes capitalized on two power plays, following it up with a goal at the 16:16 mark to pull ahead.

The Flames pulled their goalie to give them an extra attacker in an attempt to tie up the game, but William Huo from the Sockeyes found the back of the empty net, bringing the game to an end with a 5-3 victory for the home team.

The first star of the game went to Matthew Stewart of the Sockeyes, who had three points of his own.

Second star was also claimed by a Sockeyes skater, Justin Grant, for his one goal and one assist.

Jakob Loewen was the lone Flame to get a star, with his opening goal and intensity on the ice being enough to get him named the third start of the game.

With the series tied up at 1-1, the Flames will now be headed back to Maple Ridge to play game three in front of a home crowd at Planet Ice on Saturday night, with the puck dropping at 7:30 p.m.
