Used books are being given a second life in Pitt Meadows thanks to a new recycling program set up at the Pitt Meadows Bottle and Return-It Depot.
Alexander Popov, owner of the recycling depot, explained that this initiative provides several benefits to Pitt Meadows and its residents.
“We’re excited to announce our partnership with Zoom Books, a used book collection, recycling, and redistribution leader,” said Popov.
“This will help you declutter your space and contribute to a more sustainable and literate community.”
According to the recycling depot, Zoom Books has a redistribution rate of 50 per cent.
“Over half the books you donate will end up in the hands of another reader,” said the Pitt Meadows Bottle and Return-It Depot.
The need for this program arises from the fact that used books are not accepted as part of the curbside recycling program, making donations of the books the only option for owners wanting to get rid of them.
The recycling depot is now accepting all types of books as long as they are in good condition and do not have water damage.
The Pitt Meadows Bottle and Return-It Depot is located at 19090 Lougheed Hwy., and is open from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. on Mondays through Saturdays and from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sundays.
